reflection

This internship was such a cool experience. The people I was able to  work with are wonderful people. I can see that their jobs genuinely make them happy. The work environment, although busy and sometime hectic, was a positive environment to be in. I felt comfortable and enjoyed the environment. For a while, I thought I would want to work from home one day, but this made me realize that I enjoy being around people and near a lively environment.

Also, being able to work  closely with the dean of the college as well as the director of the museum; was such a rare experience. It’s commonly said within the art department that the connections you make with other people are just as important as the work/designing  you do. People within this profession mingle/talk and know other people, and that can be very beneficial if your name comes up within their discussion. You can become better known because of someone else talking about the good work and effort you put forth. Now that can also go the other way too; we want our names to be talked about and recognized for the good we do within our fields, not anything bad. I have full confidence that my name will be remembered in a positive light with many of the people, if not all, that I worked with.

As well, while serving as the student liaison within the internship, among my fellow students, I was able to understand what it meant to be a good leader and representative of a group. I had to work and learn to get along well with the people I worked with. I learned to manage my time well and encourage others to do the same. Ultimately we worked as a team, and I strived to work hard and motivate others as needed.

All the things I learned within my time working with CPVA & SUMA, will be greatly beneficial to my work in the future. I’ve learned new skills within the programs I’ve been taught to use, as well as general office skills and etiquette. Being able to work on projects from start to finish, most cases from sketches to actual printed pieces, has helped me understand all the work and consideration that needs to take place when dealing with small or large projects. I know that now in the future, projects can be carried out more effectively because of the experience I’ve had.

Also, along the lines of the future, is that this internship helped me find employment with a company up north, working as their graphic designer on their marketing team. I've been able to work remotely from Cedar City as I finish school. The portfolio I was able to assemble, the connections I have made and the the skills gained have already been fruitful in future endeavors.
