Press Release
TWO CELEBRATED GROUPS IN SOUTHERN UTAH &
ONE UNFORGETTABLE INTERNSHIP

FEBRUARY 5, 2019 - CEDAR CITY, UT

I am Dustin Pullman, a soon to be a Graphic Design graduate from Southern Utah University. I was recently able to Intern and serve as the Senior/Lead Graphic Designer, as well as the student liaison, for both the Southern Utah Museum of Art (SUMA) and the College of Performing and Visual Arts (CPVA). I interned for both of these groups, who are celebrated not only within the bounds of Southern Utah University, but in the entirety of Southern Utah. This internship lasted the length of a semester, roughly 3 months or so. As an intern, the work I took part in was mainly comprised of creating and distributing marketing and advertising material. It lead to an opportunity to then become an employee of both SUMA and CPVA.

The SUMA group celebrated their 2nd birthday this last summer. They have their own building on the east side of campus. Just like the group, the building is also relatively new. It is a beautiful, contemporary-style building, complete with an open gallery, multiple studios, classrooms, and a large office space. SUMA works out of this building in their entirety, however, they share a portion of the office space with CPVA. You will be able to find the offices of the Dean of the College, the Assistant to the Dean, and the Public Relations & Information Coordinator within the shared space.
The marketing/graphic design team worked for both groups while I interned there. This provided me with an opportunity to create and carry out projects for both the museum and the college. This lead to many interesting projects; with things such as billboards, annual reports, theatre posters, brand logos, mascot design and more. Both groups contain so many hard working and dedicated persons. It was easy to work together and accomplish things as a team. The time I spent interning, provided me with real workplace experience and an increased skill set.

This internship was done in coordination with SUU’s Edge Program. All students that attend SUU are encouraged to plan a special project that is designed to help them achieve a unique personal or professional goal. In my case, my goal was to complete a Graphic Design Internship. From start to finish, completing an edge project cannot be done in just a couple of months, it's a long process that spans over multiple years. Often times after completion, it provides students, such as myself, with a unique portfolio to attach to their resumes.
